Optrand cylinder pressure sensors, experience, heresay?
« on: May 21, 2014, 11:43:30 AM »
Looking for comments regarding experience with Optrand fiber optic cylinder pressure sensors. Life, accuracy, offset wanderings, anything....?

Also a rumor has it that Bosch has selected them as the private labeled cyl sensor for their onboard multicylinder data-acq. Any confirmations?

Talked to a Bosch rep at the PRI show. He claimed they had a deal set up with Optrand and were able to redesign the sensor for an improved higher frequency response to pickup knock better. This led them to initially hurting the reliability, and then subsequent versions got life fixes. He stated the electronics were ruggedized for on-board racing use. Costs for electronics and sensor a little over $2k. Sounded like 2nd hand knowledge however...

Optrand has the press-release of their agreement with Bosch in their news section. Be nice to know about anyone's field experience with either.

It appears Bosch has dropped the joint project with Optrand. Reliability at large quantities was the comment. Some worked well and some died fast...
